Booz Allen Hamilton’s sixth annual CEO Succession Study reveals that turnover among chief executives has leveled off and that they now operate in a world of more active investors and involved boards. To survive in this “new normal,” CEOs must pay attention to all of their constituents.

Chuck Lucier is senior vice president emeritus of Booz Allen Hamilton. He is currently writing a book and consulting on strategy issues with selected clients. Steve Wheeler is a Booz Allen Hamilton senior vice president based in Cleveland, Ohio. He leads the firm’s business focused on strategic leadership and has served multiple industries with a focus on consumer packaged goods and durables.
